Breeding brilliance: JerseyNZ honours standout LIC Jersey bull

LIC Jersey sire Glenui Zambezi ‘Lincoln’ ET has taken top honours, securing the prestigious JT Thwaites Sire of the Season Award.

Lincoln was bred by Tony and Lesley Landers of Taranaki, whose Glenui herd is well known for producing some of the highest-ranking breeding worth Jersey cows in New Zealand.
“We are very proud and honoured to have bred a bull that has won the JT Thwaites Jersey Sire of the Season. Glenui Zambesi Lincoln ET is one of three full brothers from Glenui Baltic Laconia ET, two of which were taken in by LIC. His full brother, Glenui Zambesi Linden ET is a joint venture Jersey Future bull whose BW is 303. They descend from Glenui Integrity Lace ET, who was the result of the first ever ET work we did, and the matriarch of the well-known L family. The connection with the Thwaites family and this award is very special, more so as they are family friends and mentors, and live 5 minutes from our farm” say Tony and Lesley.

LIC Livestock Selection Manager Simon Worth says it’s an honour to have Lincoln acknowledged.
“Having our sires recognised in these prestigious awards reflects years, often decades, of hard work by our breeders and livestock selection team to breed the best bulls for New Zealand dairy farmers.
“Bulls who have won this award have often gone on to sire some of the highest-performing cows in the national dairy herd, and it’s great to see these benefits being delivered back to our farmers year after year,” says Worth.

Lincoln is currently the eighth ranked Jersey bull on the industry’s Ranking of Active Sires (RAS) list and has high gBVs both for fat and protein. He is one of many successful bulls bred by the Landers family, whose Glenui herd have some of the highest-ranking breeding worth Jersey cows in New Zealand. He is currently available in LIC’s 2025 Genetics Catalogue.

“Lincoln’s performance reflects the consistent strength of the Glenui breeding programme. He exemplifies the balance of production, health and efficiency that JerseyNZ values in a top sire,” says JerseyNZ General Manager, Pam Goodin.
